Backstory
Fear Of Driving was the first novel in which I grasped the inspirational power of new places. Having foregone the glitz of city life, which I was beginning to sleep through far too often despite the promise of gift bags and free drinks, I relocated to Middletown, CT, where my sister used to joke, “you make a right at the cows.” I found that cows make for locals as delightful as Patricia Field blazing past in her convertible. As I began to tackle my own hang-ups about driving, and went about creating an identity for a city girl outside of her city, I began to see the metaphorical and practical freedoms that driving and change of place afford. The seed for the novel had been sewn.
