Backstory

Diary Of A Working Girl, which the Disney film Beauty And The Briefcase, featuring Hilary Duff is based on, is set in a world consistent with the backdrop of my life at the time.  It was a lonely Valentine’s Day.  I was sick of getting invited to press events where every single invitee was female.  Sure I was making a lot of wonderful friends, but my youth was passing me by!  I was with a couple of girlfriends at the opening of a new bar.  Once again the same group of people.  Look, being Valentine’s day, it was more disappointing than normal.  The free drinks helped to dull the pressure of paying my rent as a struggling freelance writer—for the first time, without a regular salary.  Joking, I said to my friend, “You know, I should go work as an assistant on Wall Street.  At least I’ll get a regular income and see an actual man.”  Instantly, I said, “Of course I’m not going to do it, but that’s a great idea for a book.”  I started writing it the next day, and all my frustrations and pent-up energy literally raced my fingers across the keys
