WIP New Cover by Book Khaleesi
Been busy over here! Signed up for Mark Dawson’s paid Facebook advertising course, and looking forward to sharing the results of my upgraded knowledge with you in some upcoming posts. I’ve managed to keep my DIARY OF A WORKING GIRL amazon rank hovering around 15K a couple weeks after my bookbub. Next bookbub goal: Keep ranking in top 1K! *Remember: my personal experience is in italics.
Facebook Ads with Mailing List Sign Up Link
Wow, much better response than bookselling ads. It’s a totally different animal. Mark Dawson knows what he’s talking about. Don’t wait; get your leadpages sorted, and do this. Now.
Getting this right and sending clickers to my leadpages landing page to get a free copy of ON FIRE got my relevancy score up to 5, and I’ve been able to stop my amazon rank from going all the way back to what it was before–300Kish. The slide has been much slower. I’m still hovering around 15K.
Boxed Set
Boxed Sets of your titles that make sense as a grouping are a great way to use your assets to make extra income, according to all the industry experts. Update covers, use a relevant SEO-friendly subtitle, and package according to what’s selling in your genre.
I’m in the process of updating covers, spending a lot of time looking at what’s working for my genre, and I’ll have the finished product to show soon. One of the work-in-progress designs is above. I’ll let you know the results of this as soon as the set is published.
Search for Great Partners
Don’t waste your time working with vendors who mess you around, can’t get things turned around properly, or want to charge you for every little change. Find someone good BEFORE you’re on a deadline and take the time to explain your style and expectations. Having experts to turn things around professionally and quickly without charging a fortune is your best asset in this business. Not everyone can afford 99 Designs. I used them, but to be honest, don’t think I should have been paying $299 for one cover. You need to do A LOT of research on what’s working in your genre beforehand. Know what you need, and what your readers will expect. If they are confused by the cover, they won’t go for it. You’ve only got a few seconds to hook them.
My pick: Book Khaleesi. Eeva over there is professional, gets the industry better than anyone I’ve worked with, also does formatting and layout design, and she’s fast and reasonably priced.I was listening to Mark Dawson‘s podcast yesterday, with Adam Croft, and Mark recommended his cover artist, who is clearly doing an awesome job: bookscovered.com.

ment
It’s 2016; I’ve talked enough about how I’m going to boost my book sales income this year and the time has come to see if I can make this a reality. If I don’t, I’m going to get a proper full-timer in 2017. So, a lot riding on this; need to jump right in. Thought I would start off with a bang. So, I set myself on a mission to execute one marketing strategy per day for 30 days. Sure, I dabble, research, listen to insightful podcasts, but how much action do I actually take in my marketing efforts? It’s a new year, I’ve moved house, and it’s time to start some new routines that finally shift my self-publishing efforts into the next gear. I know I’m not alone here in wishing I could do more and feeling like all my busyness should be accomplishing something. But it’s time to face facts: what am I actually accomplishing? Completing? Putting out there? Not as much as I could with a quota plan built on sheer numbers. I made it simple: Action One New Marketing Strategy Per Day for 30 Days. In writing it down and sharing it with my peers I hope to both make myself accountable and inspire you to get moving, and share some concrete results on my efforts. Along the way, maybe we’ll all see what it takes to really get this self-publishing thing into income-generating territory. So, I’ll be blogging here throughout the month to report on my daily marketing actionables. Here’s to starting the year off growing my publishing income . . .
